Being Me: Week 49 Be the reason someone smiles today

December theme: Unexpected kindness is the most powerful, least costly, & most underrated agent of hope


We all know it's better to give than receive, and since losing Ryan I have learned first hand how powerful giving can be. Like the many lessons we master through each season of our lives, loss and heartache are our most powerful teachers. And with time, as you grow through grief there is a lingering light that guides you back to the place that saves you, that giving place.

So when you're feeling down, try doing something for someone else. An act that has no strings attached, no reaction to their response, whether good or bad. Just allow the act itself to fill you up.

  • compliment to a stranger
  • purchase coffee for the person behind you in line
  • put coins in a parking meter
  • write a handwritten thank you
  • tip 100% for good service
  • bring coffee to share at work

There are so many ways you can make someone smile, and that small act will fill you up too.
