Being Me: Week 26: Invest in you

June Theme: Believe in yourself and your halfway there

Already halfway through 2019, where have you been and where are you going?

I grew up knowing the importance of knowledge, my father drilled us of its power, and why wouldn't he, his knowledge and the more he learned created his life. It changed the direction of his military service, created his company and powered him through life. His friend George would always tell us, "Your father is the smartest man I know, bar none." Oh how I wish I could have had these last twenty-years with him to learn more.

In his brief life my father taught me the importance of investing in yourself. Knowledge is power, was one of his favorite phrases. He loved to read and shared that love with me, as well as the thirst to always learn. I love books, tales that teach you new things, adventures that allow you to escape briefly while filling you with thoughts of wonder.

His death taught me the importance of taking care of my body and investing in my health. With small steps like quitting smoking and becoming active I changed the course of my life, and now I can't imagine a day without exercise. There is always something we can do different or better for ourselves. A small act that could change us if we invested in ourselves.

A glass of water before you begin your day, reading or journaling for 10 minutes, Making that daily walk/run a priority and shifting the focus of your time, it's a great investment .
