Being Me: Week 38 - What holds you back

September theme: Sometimes we can learn and study and know and sometimes we have to believe, trust and hope

What holds you back from pursuing your dreams? Most often it is one or several of the following:

  • fear
  • procrastination
  • doubts
  • distraction
  • you avoid the truth
  • you want it to be easy
  • you want everything perfect

Since the move I have fallen off course with my goals and morning routine. My writing habits, my meditation, even writing on my blog has been absent since mid August and I am working on how to get it back.

Change creates change... Sometimes that is good, and sometimes not.

Often a habit slips easily away when we lose the cue that reminds us. Like the calendar to check off, or the water glass resting in a familiar place. This is common during vacations or when change occurs in our "normal" routine.

After listening to a podcast I learned how Chris and Heidi Powell work with clients for weight loss, starting with a simple promise to themselves. Since they have broken so many promises over the years, they need to build a new trust that they can follow through with a small daily act, each act, over times, builds momentum and confidence to add another.

From each success we rebuild the habits we need for change. In my early days of running, just finishing one mile felt amazing, but doing that built the confidence to try going further.

And so now it is time to get back on track with my goals. And although I still run and read, I miss the morning routine that set my days off with a perfect start.
