“Listen to the silence, it has so much to say.” ~ Rumi
The Year Of Focus: Week 23
Word of the Week: Silence
absence of any sound or noise; stillness.
I have always loved the sound of silence. Whether returning home after a busy day, or quietly stepping out from a noisy room, I relish the sound of silence. I remember my early appreciation of silence, years ago with young children, once everyone was off at school or work, I turned off all the noise. The quiet allowed my creative side to appear, brought new ideas on writing, and stimulated thoughts to paper.
Today, I prefer the silent sounds of nature where my mind can wander opening to the many ideas that get lost in the business of a day. With distraction being a big issue, especially in today’s world, the sound of silence is underrated. I can easily get caught up in the checking of social media instead of being present or choosing to listen to something instead of allowing my thoughts to run away.
Sometimes a course correction involves a walk outdoors where the silence or sounds of nature are your only companion. Here is where I uncover some of my best ideas, when I allow my thoughts to flow without distractions. Silence unravels new ideas, creates space for thought and teaches the appreciation in being present.
