What brought you JOY - Week 2

January 14, 2017

"Make JOY your compass today."

As I read The book of joy, I am reminded of all the simple ways to uncover joy...

"When we are able to move beyond our own pain and suffering, we are more available to others; pain causes us to be extremely self-focused." Being more joyful is how we share our happiness which in turn delivers more joy.

This week there were many moments which promoted joy, but one particular afternoon stands out as the most joyful during a visit to the Cleveland Museum of Art with my son. Unfolding into a perfect afternoon, in spite of the weather, we shared our time and mutual admiration of all things art.

After making his routine visits to the museum he invited me to join him and share in all this museum represents. All of this wonderful history in our own backyard, my father used to say, and yet I had not visited until this day.

Finally, this outing which had been outlined for weeks came together, a reminder of the value in allocating time for one another, here where we created a connection of joy while uncovering our mutual appreciation of art. These few hours enabled our story telling about the artists who influenced and intrigued us while touring this beautiful space.

With life's busy days, we often have to plan into the future for special days together. Joy appears in both the planned and unplanned moments when we tend to its growth. Sharing our mutual interests builds healthier relationships and that will always bring joy.

Looking back at what brought joy...
