Indy women's half marathon

Saturday's race in Indianapolis completed my 7th race for 12 in 2012 and it was a great race, one I would definitely do again!

While Isaac was threatening to rain on our "running parade" I had finally decided that I had no control over the weather and would just deal with whatever happened in the morning.

Earlier in the day, when we arrived in the city we were able to check out the local restaurants, visit the zoo and arriving in perfect time to feed the Giraffes...

For dinner we decided the pasta dinner served at the hotel would be a perfect carb load for the race which was served at the Hyatt restaurant called The Eagles Nest. Able to sit down and enjoy the meal, we headed up the elevator to the 21st floor. Unknown to us was that the Eagle's Nest would give us a 360 moving birds eye view of the city.

Onto the race....

Having everything located in one convenient location was a plus for us. With the hotel, expo, pasta dinner and the start line all a part of the Hyatt! The expo, though cute, was probably the smallest I have ever seen... so we quickly made our way through and found other areas of the city to explore.

Race morning was exciting... heading to the start with all the other women, each of us anticipating our own race, curious about the weather and ready for the race to start among other common bonds found with women in groups...

The race itself was great... a flat course that I had hoped would bring me a PR... but the heat and humidity drained me as well as my lack of training since my injury. I had just begun increasing my miles, but like life, every race isn't going to be your best... It still was a great race, with wonderful volunteers, a great medal, a rose and mimosa's. One that if given the opportunity, I would return to do again.

Race stats...

  • 44th of 122 women in my age group
  • Time: 2:24:50
  • 575 of 1414 participants in half marathon

As always, my favorites joined me on this race... Wearing my favorite Lululemon capri and tank, Brooks tennis shoes and using my Ifitness fuel belt as well as Chica bands to hold my hair back are my must haves for every race!
