Evolution of my running goals

September 28, 2010

Isn't it funny how over time our goals change.  What we once thought we would never do we have now achieved and set new goals in its place...

One of my first goals was being able to run 3 miles or a 5k race, then I wanted to beat my time at a 5k, and now after running my second half marathon I am actually thinking my next goal needs to be a full marathon?  And who would have thought, especially when coming to the finish at the Akron half marathon I was thanking God that I wasn't running the full.

But then it dawned on me, I only trained for a half marathon, so that's why I had used up everything I trained for. Then the idea started growing in my mind. Is it possible, could I train longer and harder to go farther?

The night before the half we had dinner with Jill and her family and Jennifer and Dave. They shared some of they're running stories with us and it really inspired me to check out different areas to run.  Like the Detroit marathon that takes you into Canada, or the San Francisco where you get a Tiffany necklace!  I have family in California that I'm sure would love for me to come their way. And of course Chicago.... Who wouldn't want to run in Chicago? And then I read this article that got me thinking even more.

Here is a list in no particular order of half marathons or marathons I would like to complete:

  • San Francisco
  • Detroit
  • Chicago
  • NYC
  • Pittsburgh - though the hills concern me!
  • Cleveland again
  • Disney Princess marathon
  • Columbus

I better look into something like this  or this for my medals!
