What brought you JOY: Week 21

This week I discovered abundant joy and gratitude when volunteering at a homeless veterans shelter. The first step was to prepare white chicken chili for approximately 100 people. Not only was this the first time I had created a meal for 100 people, but also providing for the homeless, a positive shift to my usual acts of kindness.

This participation also required a copious amount of math skills as I multiplied each ingredient then divided those numbers from the bulk sized fillings, packing it all into the appropriate containers for travel and upon arrival preparing the chili to be served.

Taking turns with the other volunteers we were able to spend some time chatting with the veterans, and while many kept to themselves or within their group others were happy to share their stories and talents and gratitude for all who were there.

This opportunity provided both pride and joy as we shared chili and conversation, rekindling the kindness that remains in a world that often looks bleak and inspiration from the friends I keep.

Looking back at what brought joy...
