My first 5k

February 8, 2010

What a great day Sunday was.... for starters I ran my first 5K which both Chelsea and my brother in law Gordon also ran.

Chelsea and I got up early and headed to Milts to get a little cardio stretch in before the race.  Then it was over to the rec center to meet up with Deb and Gordon and get ready for the race.  It was 17 degrees when I got out of my car!

Debbie hung out to take pictures and for moral support!

Being my first time in an outdoor event I wasn't sure what to expect or how my pace was going to be.  In the end I was pleased not only that I finished the event running the entire way, but that my time (37:17) was just shy of my treadmill runs (33:53) I record at daily mile.

And it sure is different running on the treadmill and running outdoors in the snow, slush and ice!  I slipped one time and was a little unsure for part of the run.  My shoe was untied almost near the finish that I had to stop and tie it and my ipod quit...

With all that said it was an AWESOME feeling of accomplishment no matter the time!

Chels and I after the race (with Debbie and Gordon behind us), even with it being 17 degrees, I was way over dressed!

And Chelsea!!!

So so proud of this girl!  She ran the best race and ended up in 1st place for her age and even would have placed 2nd in the next age bracket!  So glad we got to do this together!

Such an awesome group of people runners are!  Even when some of the top runners finished and were heading back out, they would always encourage you as you crossed paths!  And the cheering for everyone, who wouldn't be inspired?
